Note: This is a first draft and unrefined version of this hack. Improvements will follow.
MyBlogLog is becoming increasingly popular. Recently I've discovered how easy it is to use MyBlogLog for self promotion so I've decided to add it to my arsenal of marketing tools.
Blog Log permits tracking of other Blog Log members to your sites but requires the inclusion of script which, if I'm not mistaken cannot be directly imbedded with wikidot unless there is formal support for it. However, there is an easy way to include the code.
- First create a .txt document and enter the tracking code provided by MyBlogLog.
- Upload the .txt file to your wikidot site.
- Rename the document to a .html file.
- Using iframe, embed the page within your site.
I recommend adding the code to your side navigation so that it will appear on every page. This will give you depth and page view information too. This is not meant to replace Google Analytics, which in my opinion is one of the best free services you can snag and MyBlogLog is certainly no competitor. However, this will help you if you are MyBlogLog fan and want to collect more traffic stats.
This hack is currently used on this site and within the navigation the code reads:
[[iframe http://whane-the-whip.wdfiles.com/local--files/hold/bloglog.html
height="1" width="1" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"]]
Note the size of the iframe, this prevents it from being displayed on the page, yet the code is still read.
